Cruise Night, Cars in the Park show
MVT Staff Report
After discussions with this year’s Cruise Night entertainment, Heatwave, the Dinuba Car Show committee had decided to cancel the Main Street Cruise Night and Cars in the Park Show that was scheduled for the first weekend of June.
“It was our intent to wait until the first part of May to make the final decision,” said Sandy Sills, CEO of the Dinuba Chamber of Commerce and car show commit-
tee member. “However, in light of recent statements and announce- ments by the CDC, Governor [Gavin] Newsom, Tulare County Health Department and the ex- perts who are looking at reopening of the economy and public gather- ings, it has become clear that we will be unable to hold a large event in early June.”
Sills said although it is disap- pointing that events like the car show and the Cinco de Mayo cel- ebration, which was to be put on by this year’s Leadership North-
ern Tulare Count class, have been canceled, ultimately the chamber wants to do what’s best for the community by continuing to fol- low and comply with protocol.
According to Sills, the band Heatwave has agreed to perform at next year’s Cruise Night, sched- uled for June 4, 2021, something she said the committee is looking forward to.
“We are going to be working all year to make this our best con- cert and car show ever,” Sills ex- pressed about next year’s event.
BBB asks public to report price gouging
Contributed
The Better Busi- ness Bureau’s vision is an ethical marketplace where buyers and sell- ers can trust each other — and businesses who engage in price goug- ing undermine those ef- forts.
"Price gouging" is a term referring to when a seller spikes the price of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair (generally above a 10 percent hike) and is considered exploitative, potentially to an unethi- cal extent.
As government of- ficials, news outlets and health officials are keeping the public ap-
praised of the COVID-19 situation, the BBB is receiving reports from consumers stating that they are finding the cost of high-demand items, such as hand sanitizers, tissues, face masks and other products skyrock- eting. For this reason, Better Business Bureau Serving Central Cali- fornia & Inland Empire Counties has developed a price gouging online form available on BBB. org. It's on this page that consumers can fill out and submit reports to BBB detailing their ex- perience with a business, and how they became a victim of price gouging.
Anyone who suspects price gouging during a declared state of emer- gency should report it to Better Business Bu- reau by going to BBB. org/CCIE and select the "Report Price Gouging" button. Consumers have the option to opt in/out of speaking with the media about their price gouging experience as well. When reporting a price gouging com- plaint, gather as much information as safely possible and follow these three tips:
• Be as specific about the transaction as possi- ble, including the name and address of the busi- ness, names of any em- ployees involved, and information detailing the spike in pricing.
• Gather together documentation sup- porting the price goug- ing (receipts, photos of products and their advertising pricing, in- voices, etc.)
• Compare pricing of similar products with other sellers in the ar- eas as well as online. It’s important to note similarities and differ- ences between brands, size/quantity, manufac- turers, model numbers, and prices.
BBB warns business- es to avoid the tempta- tion to raise prices dur- ing a situation such as a pandemic because it is illegal to do so in the state of California and because it erodes marketplace trust. Con- sumers will remember which businesses took advantage of them dur- ing this time after all is said and done.
To report price gouging, go to bbb.org/CCIE and select the "Report Price Gouging" link
