On Aug. 27, the Pi- rates captured the var- sity boys and girls team titles at the Sierra Pa- cific Invitational in west Hanford.
Senior Paola Ran- gel captured the girls race in 13 minutes, 6.91 seconds on the two-mile course. Oth- er RHS girls were Araceli Villareal (third in 13:24.54), Yasmin Sinchi Guti (11th, 14:26.13), Valeria Fer- reyra H (16th, 14:50.24)

Dinuba 48, Tulare Western 20 The Emperors bolted
to a 28-7 halftime lead and never looked back in avenging a spring 2021 loss to the Mustangs. Senior receiver Olvera caught 10 passes for his record-setting perfor- mance, scoring three touchdowns with a long of 62 yards.
Barragan completed 20 of 32 passes, four of them for touchdowns. Sophomore Anthony Aguallo rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown, and Brandon Guido had a rush TD and two inter- ceptions on defense.
The Emperors open their home season Fri- day at 7:30 p.m. against new school Matilda Tor- res High from Madera. The Emps junior varsity will play El Diamante at 5 p.m.

At Mendota, the shorthanded Eagles lost their first game under new head coach Josh Henderson on the road against the Aztecs. Men- dota broke open a tight game with 15 points in the third quarter.
Jacob Cabrera pro- vided the bulk of the team's 196 total yards with 146 yards rushing including a 59-yard run. Quarterback Hector Davila III completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Luke Harder.
Immanuel's home opener is Friday at 7:30 p.m. in County Line Sta- dium against Fowler High.
McLane 21, Orosi 18
In Fresno, the Car- dinals (1-1) trailed by three points with sev- en minutes remaining when officials called the game because of bad air quality.

Two Parlier High games canceled
Parlier High's sched- uled game with Yosem- ite High on Aug. 27 was canceled because of contact tracing for CO- VID-19. In addition, the Panthers (0-1) won't play this week's scheduled game at Avenal for the same reason.
Parlier's next sched- uled game is Friday, Sept. 17, at Caruthers High.
Ryan Warkentin Reedley High football
Senior running back Ryan Warkentin had his second straight strong rushing performance, compiling 151 yards and scoring two touchdowns in a 33-21 win over
Sierra Pacific on Aug. 27. Warkentin ran for 258 yards and four TDs in the season-opening win over Hanford West on Aug. 20

Michael Olvera, senior wide receiver for Dinuba High, set a school record for single game receiving yards with 277 yards on 10 catches with three touchdowns in the Emperors' 48-20 victory at Tulare Western on Aug. 27. In two games, Olvera has 17 receptions for 340 yards (17.0 average) and five touchdowns while helping lead the Emps to a 1-1 record.
