Kenneth
(Coach)
Adolph
March 17, 1928 ~ August 22, 2021
Norman was born on March 17, 1928 to Henry and Amelia Adolph in Sanger California. He
passed away August 22, 2021 at the age of 93 in Visalia, California.
Norm (Coach, Moose or Mr. Adolph) attended grade school at Bethel School, and then
went to Sanger High School in Sanger, California where he excelled as an athlete in football,
basketball, baseball and track. Norm was awarded a Lifetime pass to all of the Sanger High School athletic events. During WWII in his senior year at Sanger High School, Norm joined the U.S. Merchant Marines. Being only 16 years old, he couldn’t join the U.S. Marine Corps, which was his goal. Norm’s parents agreed to sign for him as soon as he earned his high school diploma which he had done in 1945. The Merchant Marines accepted 16 year olds, so the
agreement was met with his parents.
On what was to be his graduation night, Norm’s ship was
under attack in Okinawa, Japan. A suicide plane just missed his ship by a few yards. When the war ended, Norm returned to Sanger, California. He then joined the U.S. Marines. After a short hitch in the Marines he again returned to his hometown of Sanger.
Norm married in 1947 had three children, Laura, Robyn and Tori. Later, Norm meet Patricia Mono and they have been together for the last 41 Years.
Norm attended College of the Sequoias in Visalia and then transferred to Fresno State. After graduation he taught health, driver’s training and coached football and baseball at Dinuba High School. While coaching for DHS, he lead his football team into many division championships. Later in his career at Dinuba Unified School District he was the principal for the Continuation School.
After retirement in 1992 he enjoyed his little piece of farmland and grew stone fruit, tomatoes and Armenian cucumbers all the way into his late 80’s. On his down time, he would take the occasional trip to Chukchansi Resort and Casino, he also spent many weekends at the coast, but the one trip that he looked forward to each year was his trip to Sterling Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula to go salmon and halibut fishing. That was his time to get together with his longtime friends Ernie Wall, Tom Scheidt, Dewey and John Beli, Frank Lemos, Larry Iwasaki and talk and laugh about the glory days of playing football, coaching, teaching and life in a small town.
Norman is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Patricia Mono; his three children, Robyn Adolph, Laura Shafsky, and Tori Tatti; five grandsons; and five great grandchildren.
