Councillor corner
How well do you know your
Town Councillors?
Name: David Read
How long have you lived in the area? I have lived in Thrapston for 44 years.
How did you find
yourself serving on
the Council? It was
suggested by a now retired town councillor that I stood for the Town Council in the May 2003 Elections, I was elected and have been a town councillor ever since.
What do you enjoy most about the role that you have? I enjoy trying to make the town a better place to live in by providing improved facilities wherever possible and helping to promote community events and activities.
What makes the local area special to you?
The friendly people, the beautiful Nene Valley and Northamptonshire countryside on our doorstep.
Hobbies: what do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy reading and writing short stories and poetry as part of a local creative writing group. I enjoy singing in the Corby Male Voice Choir and spending time with my family and friends.

Vet’s tips
Helping your dog to cope during the firework season
Many dogs are frightened by the noise of fireworks, and a large percentage of those will also be sensitive to other loud noises e.g. thunderstorms. Some dogs become worse as the years go by, generalising their fear to incorporate environmental cues such as darkening autumnal skies or changes in barometric pressure before a storm.
Indications of fear include many behaviours associated with the fight or flight response such as:
• Increased heart rate and respiratory rate
• Dilated pupils
• Trembling
• Urinating or defecating
• Heightened level of activity
Normal fear is considered to be an important adaptive response because it helps
an animal to avoid danger.
However, when the fear
serves no useful purpose
or persists after the danger
has passed, then it can
no longer be considered
advantageous and may
even impinge upon an
individual’s ability to
lead a normal life.
In severe cases
a dog may become so noise phobic that it will refuse to go outside for a walk.
