Alongside this the Sqn organised the Royal Signals annual Lanyard Trophy, a 40 Mile Endurance March across Dartmoor in a team of 8, simple as fastest team to finish. 22 Units, both regular and reserve, participated on a day full of the best Dartmoor weather. A successful day for the Squadron with the competition being ran to a high standard, combined with the Squadron’s team finishing in first place.
Sport is a real crowd-pleaser within the Sqn and when we get time to, we do try and deliver. The Sqn was awarded The Birtwistle Pennant for the Minor Unit that has contributed most to sport within the Royal Signals.

Joint Service Signals Unit (JSSU) / RAF Digby waves farewell to its Stn Cdr Wg Cdr D Todd RAF

I am informed that Operations globally continue to be supported here, albeit remotely. The nature of this work is ‘desk-based’ as you would suspect and that is what it is. Locations – unknown. Support who and what – unknown. You could possibly guess with everything we hear in the news! But what I do know however, is the attendance to PT has been a challenge for the shift patterns/Ops teams station-wide this year, but that aside, we make it happen... The delivery of Sport and AT remains at the forefront of the station’s
agenda with little to no friction when it comes to getting people out the door. Ops permitting of course... regular local trips mountain biking and hill walking are a weekly occurrence and when the weather picks up, I’m sure to see the canoes and stand-up paddle boards deploying out to the areas.
As the year closes the unit look forward to next year’s Forecast of Events (FoE) being populated and funds set to projects. I look forward to supporting these outputs from a Sporting, Adventurous Training, and PD perspective.
