RRU Colchester is currently undergoing significant changes following a recent merge with
neighbouring RRU Honington into its operations. All rehabilitation courses are conducted solely at Colchester following a successful iteration of a rolling two- week course in Jan 24.
Consequently, the challenge to forge a seamless operation of all administrative and clinical functions, without compromising the quality of patient healthcare has been the overarching mission. Staff have tirelessly worked to ensure the success of this mission despite the numerous challenges encountered along the way.
In the words of the late Steven Hawking, “intelligence is the ability to adapt to change”. Staff at the RRU have displayed remarkable intelligence and resilience navigating through a constantly changing landscape of the newly formed Defence Healthcare Recovery Group (DHRG).
Huge successes have been made over the past year. A new strength and conditioning suite was fitted to transform the gymnasium into a modern setup fit for the optimal delivery of role-specific exercise rehabilitation to a Tri-Service patient cohort. The patient classroom has also been given an uplift with the addition of a new electronic touch screen display unit, comfortable seats, fridges and drinks- making facilities. These improvements

Sgt (SI) Boachie-Ansah RAPTC was successfully selected as winner of the Loane Trophy in Jul 23. This is awarded to the RAPTC Association Member who is deemed to have contributed the most to enhance the prestige of the RAPTC through Rehabilitation.
On the sporting front, WO2 (QMSI) Wallace RAPTC received the highest award in Army Basketball. The addition of her name to the Army Basketball Honours Board for services as a senior player, previous club captain, and rehab lead for

squad players, has cemented her place in British Army Basketball history as one of only 23 ever awarded the honour since 1954.
The Team here at Colchester warmly welcomed Sgt (SI) Kelly RAPTC to the helm as we bade farewell to Sgt (SI) Hussell RAPTC on posting to Dishforth PCRF in Jan 24. Sgt (SI) Kelly has taken a keen interest in supporting British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF) events and has recently officiated at the UK Midlands BAWF Event 3 held at DITG Chicksands.
In conclusion, the numerous successes of this Unit are a testament to the dedication, remarkable work ethic and unrelenting efforts of its Staff (military and civilian) despite some significant changes.
