Life at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) Cosford is marked by its dynamic environment tailored
to meet the evolving needs of patients. Transitioning from a three-week general course to a more condensed two-week model has yielded positive feedback, with an emphasis on individualised care. By gauging patients’ fatigue levels daily through a set of four simple questions, including muscular fatigue, sleep duration, hydration consumption, and resting heart rate, our department can tailor treatments to suit each patient’s needs, enhancing their recovery journey. Backed by two years of data, our fatigue management standard operating procedure ensures optimal care delivery.
Our dedicated team of instructors, led by Sgt Miley and Sgt Pine, embody the commitment to excellence that defines the Royal Army Physical Training Corps. WO2 (QMSI) Andy Brown’s impending promotion to WO1 serves as a testament to the calibre of leadership within our ranks. As a mentor to Sgt (SI) Miley and Sgt (SI) Pine, his guidance extends beyond the physical realm, nurturing the next generation of leaders within our corps.
In addition to our clinical duties, we take pride in mentoring Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors (ERIs) undergoing training at the Joint Service School of Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors (JSSERI). With Sgt Miley at the helm, our mentorship programme ensures that future ERIs receive comprehensive guidance as they prepare to join our esteemed ranks.

Sgt Miley’s and Sgt Pine’s contributions extend beyond the confines of RRU Cosford, with both individuals representing the Corps in various sports at both Corps and Army levels. Their dedication to excellence on and off the field exemplifies the ethos of the RAPTC.
Sgt Pine’s swift integration into RRU Cosford as a newly qualified ERI underscores the effectiveness of our mentorship and training programmes. His adept leadership on courses has gained praise from patients and colleagues alike, highlighting the calibre of professionals within our unit.
Furthermore, Sgt Miley’s initiatives, such as the Clinical Mentorship Programme (CMP) and “Beyond the Field”, reflect our commitment to holistic development. The CMP provides aspiring ERIs with invaluable mentorship, bridging the gap between aspiration and achievement. Meanwhile, “Beyond the Field” showcases the diverse opportunities available within the Corps, emphasising the potential for

elite sporting status and professional growth beyond traditional avenues.
Moreover, recent investments in our facilities have enhanced the quality of care we provide. With upgrades to flooring and equipment totalling circa £100,000, we ensure that our patients receive treatment in a state-of-the-art environment conducive to their rehabilitation journey.
In conclusion, life at RRU Cosford is characterised by innovation, mentorship and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Through individualised care, mentorship programmes and initiatives aimed at broader community engagement, we strive to uphold the highest standards of service within the RAPTC.
