As I reflect on the past year, serving as the ASPT Commanding Officer has truly been a rewarding and fulfilling experience for me. This will be my final assignment in the Corps – and what a perfect way to cap off my career. Like many writing MBS notes, it seems only a short time ago I was compiling last year’s notes – such has been the pace of life at the ASPT. I would say this sentiment applies equally to my 34-year military career. Indeed, in 1999 I was assigned onto the ASPT Delivery Team...vivid memories!
As is evident from the department updates below, the ASPT continues to be an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding place to work. With the biggest nucleus of RAPTCIs, Fox Lines is vibrant and notably more attractive than ever before during assignment boards. I have witnessed first-hand, how AAPTI students become quickly inspired to return on RAPTC Selection. This is truly gratifying to witness and predominantly down to the professionalism of ASPT staff (Delivery Team, CAV Cell, CDC and QM’s Dept), their influence and efficacy of the course content/material. So, I must personally thank all for their commitment, dedication and mentoring to nurture grassroots interest and to support RAPTC recruiting.

Notwithstanding our main effort, to qualify and educate PTIs, we have undertaken plenty of extra curriculum activities (i.e., Sports, AT, BFS, cultural visits etc). Also, I have instigated some separate work- strands, these being: Pj MIRROREDGE (to enable increased AAPTI throughput),
CO ASPT on AAPTI Cse 78 Endurance Flag Comp
Pj NEXUS (to better enable Army Reserve delivery), ASPT Insight Days and a refresh of the ASPT facade.
I will now leave it to the departments to provide their insightful updates!
ARMY SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL TRAINING
The ASPT has initiated a pioneering series of female-focused insight days, aiming to enhance the presence of women wearing the crossed swords. Addressing the stark gender imbalance - where only 10-15 women qualify out of an annual cohort of around 480 PTIs - these events strive to dismantle psychological barriers and inspire more women to join the PTI ranks.
To date, 3 events, led by WO2 (QMSI) Abi Morrow RAPTC, have welcomed 115 potential female PTIs to the ASPT, offering them a deep-dive into the PTI career pathway. The days are packed with insightful sessions from current female PTIs and RAPTCIs, who share their journeys and discuss the PTI course content and standards. Practical PT sessions form a core part of the agenda, alongside specific coaching on how to tackle the fitness tests’ more challenging elements.
