4Regt RA has been through a busy year preparing for Very High Readiness (VHR) to support NATO.
As part of a VHR unit, I am currently held at 48-hours notice to move as part of CO’s TAC. To qualify for this, I took the blue jacket off and donned the combat effective fighting order to complete the Foxhound Commander’s course. My deployable role is to command the CO’s Foxhound within a team of 5. In preparing for VHR, 4 Regt RA has taken part in many training exercises, finishing the training year off with the deployment to Poland for Ex LINOTYPER - a NATO-led exercise seeing over 90,000 troops training together.
Alongside military training for readiness, we have hosted the first Army Sport North British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF) event and an Army Sport North orienteering event. Both events were a pleasure to host and watch soldiers from across the UK North region come together expressing the sporting ethos. 4 Regt RA took part in many regional events which earnt us a place at the Army Sport North Dinner Night where one of our athletes was awarded the Under 25 Best Performing Male Athlete.
Even though 4 Regt RA is a busy unit, I have managed to get away from the desk to compete in the 72-hour Regimental Fishing Competition where I caught an astonishing number of fish - which was none. I also had the privilege to be selected to officiate at a number of boxing competitions, one of which was for 1 LANCS in Cyprus. The weather was cool but a very enjoyable week of boxing.
My 4 years with 4 Regt RA is coming to an end soon and the time has gone far too fast. My time here has been fantastic and I will be leaving the unit with lots of great memories. Besides this, I am looking forward to being posted to a new unit with new challenges.
