Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not getting; in the trying,
not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.
Upon assuming the role of RAPTCI for The Royal Lancers, I seamlessly transitioned from my previous position at Infantry Training Centre Catterick, thanks to a thorough handover from SSgt (SSI) Manderson. Initially, my first exposure to the unit was organising and hosting the Annual SNCO Vs Officers’ Mess Rugby Match. A game that brings camaraderie, teamwork and robustness. Not the result the SNCOs wanted, but a great way for me to get to know the unit.
With a busy Forecast of Events (FoE) looming ahead, we wasted no time after the Christmas break, swiftly getting squadrons geared up for Pre-Deployment Training and ensuring their readiness for deployment. Additionally, aiding the remaining squadrons in planning and preparing for Adventurous Training before they start their Pre-deployment training in Summer 24.
Under the adept leadership of LCpl Williams, serving as the captain, skilfully guided the Regiment to victory in the UK North Basketball Competition. His leadership and coaching prowess were duly acknowledged, highlighting his invaluable contribution to the team’s success. This remarkable achievement was made possible through the excellent

Restoring ethos, enhancing team camaraderie and fostering more personal interaction in the North were focal points for Capt (MAA) S Pollock’s reorganisation efforts. In my role as the newly appointed UK North Entertainments officer, I enthusiastically embraced this initiative and developed a plan to facilitate these objectives. I decided to organize bi-monthly breakfast meetings to bring everyone together, welcoming RAPTCIs to the North and bidding farewell to those
departing. Additionally, I supported the RAPTC North East Branch Association Dinner. If you haven’t attended an association dinner yet, I highly recommend doing so, as we are the future of The Association.
What a remarkable season it has been for the Apostles! Beginning as runners-up in the Army Rugby Union (ARU) Corps Festival 2023 Merit League 3, they went on to secure the League 3 Championship for the 2023/24 season. The team’s journey reflects their unwavering dedication and perseverance. Apostle #74.
