Itook on the role of 2 Medical Regiment’s RAPTC Instructor in December 2023, the pace of the unit quickly became
apparent and presented challenges early on. Much like the remainder of the British Army, the unit is extremely busy on deployments around the globe. 2 Medical Regiment operate at high readiness within 12 Armoured Brigade Combat Team (12 ABCT) and provide various levels of professional medical aid on both exercise and operations. To name a few, the unit has personnel deployed on Op INTERFLEX, Op CABRIT, Op PYSMA and Op LINOTYPER. To add to the mix the unit also provides medical support to the surrounding units within Tidworth Garrison.
Upon arrival, I continued the great work of my predecessor by continuing and progressing the final 3 iterations of the Commanding Officer’s Competition. Due to the upcoming large-scale deployment the unit required a shift to a more specific role-related physical training programme. This involved a large unit level endurance event mimicking representative military tasks alongside mass casualty evacuation. This was well received by the unit and multiple new, young leaders were identified. Due to this deployment, the whole unit’s Physical Development (PD) focus has moved to a specific method of training. Alongside their busy lifestyle, the unit still makes time to compete in sport across various disciplines including

AMS level Rugby, Army powerlifting, AMS football, snowboarding and numerous unit level team cohesion days.
The recruitment of All Arms Physical Training Instructors (AA PTIs) has been one of the main challenges faced within my time due to the level of deployability of the soldiers. This however has not stopped the unit investing time in selected individuals and progressing them through the AA PTI course. Over the course of this year, the unit has qualified 5 individuals to deliver physical training within the regiment.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at 2 Medical Regiment and am excited to continue the role. The experience so far has enabled me to grow as an individual,

I look forward to the future challenges as I deploy with the unit on Op LINOTYPER in a forward Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI) role. Whatever challenges the future holds, 2 Medical Regiment will be ready, fit to support and will continue to develop whilst providing vital medical support across the Army.
