1Signal Regiment are situated in Swinton Bks Perham down, they have endured a busy year delivering
Regimental, Brigade and Div exercises around the world.
1 Signal Regiment’s main effort over the past year has been Project Convergence Capstone 4 (PCC4), this is a multinational experiment held in California. Over 600 British troops deployed along with members of the American, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, French and Japanese forces.
1 Signal Regiment’s main effort was to support the entire communication network for the entire experiment, they achieved that to the best of their ability being praised by all nations. Along with this they were also tasked to supply the Real-Life Support (RLS) for PCC4. My self as the acting Squadron Sergeant Major (SSM) for Support Squadron deployed as the RLS SSM and RLS 2IC, where all day-to-day running of the experiment came across our desks. Some days had their challenges, but the RLS team always delivered and delivered well. It was a great opportunity to be asked and one that does not come around very often, and being that it was in California is always a bonus.
The 10-week experiment went well for all parties involved and during stand down periods the troops were able to take full advantage to go and visit some sites while deployed in the US.

SSgt (SSI) D Winter RAPTC
This was my first full year at 1 Signal Regiment, and it has been great to be a part of the team, being given the opportunity to become a Sqn SSM alongside my role as the SSI has only increased my knowledge, skill set and understanding for what goes on behind the scenes. I would encourage anyone if given the opportunity to accept it.
Alongside all the busy deployments and day-to-day activity, the Unit has a great
attitude towards Sports and AT, with some of the highest participation rates in the Division. AT Expeds have been conducted in South Africa, Malaysia, France, Spain as well as UK-based activities with others planned for Morocco and Sweden.
As I now move away from 1 Signal Regiment, I look forward to the new experiences and challenges that lie ahead.
