It has been another extremely busy, but exciting, year for 16 Medical Regiment (16 Med Regt). This fast-paced unit is a
great place to work, with many excellent opportunities for the unit personnel with constant trawls for the medical professionals to be tasked to anywhere the Army deploy – one individual was even tasked to the Maldives!
This year the unit have deployed on multiple deployments and exercises across the world and in the UK with a minimum of two Squadrons held at High Readiness to support Operations around the world. Amongst the constant trawls and exercises, unit personnel are required to maintain currency and competency within their specific trades, whether that be a Combat Medical Technician or a Surgeon.
In Feb 24, 23 Squadron deployed to Salisbury Plain on Ex WINGED SERPENT which was the AMMG 1 (High readiness) validation exercise. They validated Role 1 & 2 medical facilities with 2 SCOTS integrating fixed winged and rotary airframes as part

of the re supply for the MEDEVAC chain – a great exercise giving the newer members of the Squadron a real taste for life in 16 Bde. The weather was testing for all, which made it more challenging, but the unit were up for the task.
With all that is going on in the unit and the Brigade, All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection (P Coy) is still an integral commitment, I have been delivering back-to-back 8-week Unit Conditioning Courses along with the other RAPTCIs within 16 Brigade to physically and mentally prepare our Service Personnel for P Coy. The pass rate within the unit and across the Brigade has increased which has been very positive throughout. Especially with a number of General Duties Medical Officers (GDMOs) passing, which is great news for the wider Brigade
Although everyone within the unit is very busy, we still manage to facilitate some very interesting Physical Training sessions for our unit Personnel, and one of those sessions this year saw the unit conduct CO’s PT on the beach, in and out of the
sea followed by much needed bacon rolls and coffee; which was a great success.
As always, I have continued to enjoy and support Army and UKAF Boxing as the Army Officials Appointments and Development Secretary, which has been another busy season for all Officials. I have continued to deliver numerous Boxing Referee, Judge and Timekeeper courses for Officials both at ASPT and across the wider Army along with RAPTC Refresher courses. This has been great to see more RAPTCIs wishing to support Boxing in an Officiating role. The opportunities for Officials this year have been amazing, having Officials deploy on numerous Overseas Sports Visits (OSVs) to support Boxing events, such as Cyprus, Estonia, Bahrain, New York and Australia. Not forgetting the constant output our Officials produce by travelling week-in-week-out all over the country to support our Sport.
Personally, I have had a very successful year within Boxing myself, having been selected to Officiate at the National Elite Boxing Finals in Apr 24.
