after just the first quarter; however, the Eng- land Roses were fired up and raring for a win so turned this around in the second quarter to make them three goals up at half time. Eng- land managed to hold onto this lead throughout the rest of the game to win. Australia’s strong defence, however, prevented England from gain- ing the five-goal lead needed in order to win the series overall, and this went to Australia.

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst were invited to enter a team in the British Army Community Rugby 7s Competition at Alder- shot Stadium. With the OCdts in Senior term away on EX DYNAMIC VICTORY, it was left to Intermediate and Junior term OCdts to make a team. Following a competitive trial during After- noon Sports, five OCdts from the Junior term were selected much to their delight, represent- ing the Academy for the first time.
Upon arriving at Aldershot, we very quickly found out that we would be playing against the Welsh Guards first – a very well-known rugby regiment. Despite having not played with each other before, there was a natural pressure to perform well. Fur- ther pressure was added when the commentator finished the game with “this is going to be inter- esting”. The Welsh Guards played well at the start
the Army and RMAS in a professional manner by taking part in the Guard of Honour. It also allowed the Officer Cadets to watch some out- standing netball games – for most, it was their first time watching an international game. Over- all, everybody involved had a fantastic weekend and all would be delighted to participate again. Thanks go to Maj Macklin, OIC Netball, and the UK Armed Forces Netball Association for organ- ising the event and coordinating the day.
Rugby 7s
OCdt Hodson
 Sir,
The RMAS Rugby 7s Squad attended the Army Major Unit 7s competition at the Army Rugby Union Stadium in Aldershot and won it!
There were 12 teams, including the Welsh Guards, QDG, RSME, 11 Sigs, Pilgrims and the Grenadier Guards.
RMAS played 10 Sigs, Welsh Guards, Pil- grims, QDG and the Welsh Guards again in the final.
It was a fantastic day and what shone through for me was the fitness of the RMAS squad; the strength & conditioning set them apart from the other teams. They were physically very strong!
My favourite moment was a bruising encoun- ter against the Pilgrims (Troops Hereford) who resorted to some very physical rugby, but the OCdts fronted up and even got the edge on them.
OCdt Perry – Ypres Coy won the player of the tournament and a few of the OCdts are now being looked at by the Army coaches.
The OCdts were absolutely a credit to the Academy.
