Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Muster, Windsor Castle 19 May 2012
There were twenty four members of The Mercian Regiment who took part in this event. WO1 Bartley acted as OIC Mercian contingent and by accounts, took an increasingly more active role in the whole proceedings. Our contingent was drawn from all four battalions plus two recruits from Infantry Training Centre, Catterick. We are grateful for this view of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 4 August 1887, which was sent in by Lt. Col (Retd) John Lowles.
Newbold Memorial
The Newbold War Memorial at Littlemoor, Chesterfield was rededicated and the names of 24 servicemen and women
who have died since WW11 were added, amongst those named was Ben Ford of
2 MERCIAN who was killed whilst deployed to Afghanistan in 2007.
  Our New Chelsea Pensioner
We would like to introduce our latest and at the time of writing, only Chelsea Pensioner. Jim Fellows is shown with Colour Sergeant Greg Hedges – 22 September 2012.
Bench Dedications, National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas
2 November 2011
In the autumn of 2011, we had two generous donations in the form of
new benches, which were laid in the Staffordshire Regiment plot at the National

Memorial Arboretum. The first was presented by George Parry, an Arnhem Veteran and his wife Joyce. Unknown
to us, Stoke-on-Trent Branch had also approached the National Memorial Arboretum with the same intention. The dedication ceremony took place on Wednesday 2nd November and both benches were blessed. The only sad news to report is that George Parry died a few weeks later. His obituary appears in the obituary pages.
