BODMIN KEEP MUSEUM
Back in Cornwall it has been a real roller-coaster for the museum, with two periods of enforced closure covering most of the normal visitor season. As a small charity with limited resources, the museum has been fortunate to secure several grants which have helped it to survive financially.
The museum team responded to the closure by exploring the opportunities offered by digital technology and this has led to the creation of lots of new resources, all of which are still available via the new website www. bodminkeep.org. Using digital platforms it has been possible to share the heritage of the DCLI and the LI with people all over the world. New resources include a 3D–virtual tour so that people can still ‘take a walk’ through our galleries, and a series of podcasts on topics ranging from the Berlin Wall to the history of Bodmin Barracks. The museum also produced KEEP KIDS newsletter, a fun resource for youngsters with lots of interesting and educa- tional things to do on topics including Dig for Victory, The Blitz, VE Day and Women in War.
The Museum Director, Mary Goodwin
said, “During 2020 we have put information about lots more of the objects in the museum collection onto the website, including a letter from Florence Nightingale that was redis- covered in our archive. With the assistance
of our two trainee curators, Sarah Waite and Katie Sawyer, we have also mounted a range of exhibitions in the museum and on our website such as: ‘Frontiers of Fashion,’ which is all about military style, Souvenirs and Spoils which looks at items brought home from battle by soldiers, and ‘Trauma to Treatment,’ about PTSD, which incorporates the ‘Not Just Another Brick in the Wall’ fundraising and aware- ness-raising project led by the unstoppable LI fundraiser Paul ‘Coco’ Cocoran.”
