QUESTION & ANSWER A
In 2012 Charlotte Croser started an online
toy store called ‘Jollys’, then just 6 months
later, in May 2013, she opened her shop in Thrapston. Since then, there’s been no stopping her and she’s now an integral part of the High Street and the Farmers’ Market – she’s also affectionately known as ‘Mrs Jollys’.
Why did you choose Thrapston? There are lots of young families in the town and I found the perfect little shop unit.
What makes Jollys different? Personal service; we really go the extra mile for our customers. We’re quite unique as a small toy shop to have a fully working website shop, and to have such a wide range in store too. I really think we have something for every child, and to suit every budget.
Best feature of your shop? It’s such a characterful building and a bit of a Tardis! The bowed shop window and the ‘magic door’ to the
North Pole in the back are favourites for sure. What’s the best part of the job? Being a
present fairy... helping customers choose gifts. I’m always full of ideas, and I love wrapping them too.
Worst part of the job? I detest unpacking stock and dealing with cardboard!
Any famous people visited? Not that I know of, but when I ran children’s shops in London I regularly served Dido and Gaby Roslin.
Your favourite item on sale at the moment?
New range of baby clothing from Toby Tiger – it’s bright, cheery and super cute!
How has the high street changed since you’ve been part of it? It has gradually welcomed many new businesses without losing its traditional charm. I like to think it’s looking a lot brighter and more attractive thanks to a lot of effort we’ve put into smartening up shop fronts, the library area and so on. The Farmers’
