  ARMY TRAINING REGIMENT (WINCHESTER)
The Army Training Regiment Winchester is a very busy Basic Training establishment delivering to mainly non-GCC troops with a few RAC recruits. The ATR has had a very busy and successful year putting 44 Platoons through training using the CMS 18 programme. The team has changed over the past year but currently consists of Capt (MAA) Al Harris, WO2 (QMSI) Carl Goodchild (soon to be SMI) and 3 Sergeants, Nick Cawley, Gemma Spencer and Rob Suttill. Then there’s 15 AAPTIs and 3 SIOs to complete the team. The camp is due to close in 2024 but this keeps getting delayed so there may still be training here for many years to come, with the sought after posts available for future RAPTCIs.
Sporting Achievements
ATR (W) has had a successful sporting year where permitted, with various achievements worth celebrating. We have many talented sports personnel that continue to strive for success in both team and individual sports even in the current climate. The Regiment Football Team (second division) continued their success with positive wins in the Army Minor Units Cup and Southern League.
The success of the Regiments sporting activity is without doubt down to the commitment of the AAPTIs’ and RAPTCIs.’ We actively encourage all PS to participate in as much sport as possible building on so many positive attributes. Also proving to the recruits that they can represent their units in a wide variety of sporting activity levels, from beginner to elite, once they have passed their Basic Training.

 Adventurous Training
As with everyone, the usual AT has been impossible during the last year, but we have still managed to create a package to cover the Soldier Development (SD) week that recruits would usually take part in at Sennybridge. This has been testament to the motivation and abilities of all the staff at ATR(W) to develop and deliver this programme to ensure the recruits are being trained as close to what they would have been pre-Covid. The package has consisted of kayaking, Rock Climbing, High Wires and Orienteering. Recruits have given feedback that the SD week was a highlight of their time at ATR Winchester.
Charity Work
ATR (W) have had a strong programme of Charity events in the last 12 months, one example being a 24hr On the Hour every Hour Sprint Triathlon. 8 Members of the Gymnasium completed the full 24hrs with members of the regiment signing up for one-hour slots. The event raised over £1,400.00 for Combat Stress and showed what can be achieved with teamwork, determination and mental robustness.
Mental Resilience Training
At ATR (W) we have conducted a number of MRT courses, which have been a great success, all the Physical Training elements are conducted by the gym staff. Due to COVID 19 we were unable to use logs and stretchers as we would normally use so we utilised activities such as the RFU test wearing combat clothing and body weight exercises. Another element we use on the MRT course is ‘The Fan’ which is a confidence test exercise at the high wires, this
