Covid Virtual Training
With the Country going into a national lockdown March 2020, ATR (W) alongside many other military establishments had to close their gymnasium. With the Recruits being sent home and the risk of being sedentary creeping in, a comprehensive “one size fits all” bodyweight programme was designed.
The AAPTI’s were tasked with facilitating this programme virtually, this in itself presented many variables! Initially emphasis was on movement quality rather than Aerobic capacity to reduce the risk of MSKI’s. With the professionalism and knowledge of the Instructors, Recruits were able to maintain fitness whilst being at home successfully. The Instructors also continued to deliver health and nutrition lessons alongside the physical training programme, ensuring minimal impact on output fitness levels.
Following the re-commencement of training, ATR Winchester achieved a 100% pass rating for all recruits who had undertaken virtual training. This is a testament to the effort and adaptability of all involved.

I arrived at ATR Winchester having never served in a Phase One training establishment and as a newly Commissioned Officer, commence the steep learning curve!
Fox Platoon is the Rehabilitation and Remedial training team that’s primary role is the accelerated rehabilitation of injured recruits and the re-training and development of those struggling within the CMS. The role has allowed me to develop a military training syllabus that compliments the CMS whilst catering for the varying abilities and needs of these vulnerable recruits. I am really enjoying the challenges that the job brings, especially the opportunity to work with a variety of cap badges, amongst some of the best Corporals the Army has to offer. Finally, I look forward to the opportunity to continue to develop these young recruits, especially when training in an environment that is less impacted by Covid 19 restrictions.
