Quarterly Committee Meeting
On 29th May we held our quarterly meeting, with all but one of the nine members attending. Names of committee members are given on the inside back cover of Out Birding: we'd welcome some additional volunteers to our committee, and you'd get your name in print there as well!
GGT 14 in Scotland was the most interesting topic, and Pat updated the committee - the event is now only eight months away. Developments are covered in OB, and by direct emails to participants when necessary. We also discussed a (small) Members' Gift to celebrate our 30th Anniversary: I won't spoil the surprise! Another celebratory project is to consider planting 30 trees, but this is at an early stage.
Our field events seem to be thinning, with only around 60 likely for 2024. Committee agreed to encourage members to suggest ideas in their local patches. Nigel Coldicott is our newly designated 'Field Events Adviser' and is happy to answer any questions members may have if they are thinking about organising a future event. See page 16.
Finally, a regular discussion topic is social media – how we maximise our usage of it without attracting any 'nasty' responses? Facebook in particular is interesting - a significant number of followers of GBC's Facebook page are not in fact members of the club, so we need to find ways of converting them!
This is a summary: if you would like to read the full minutes, let me know. Greg Hope, Secretary
Annual General Meeting
Following last year's successful change to a mid-week evening timing, this year's AGM will be on Thursday 19th September at 7.30PM, using Zoom. Please do join us if you can: if so, please e-mail me at hopegreg@ymail.com and I will send you the Zoom meeting joining instructions nearer the actual date.
The AGM is also the opportunity for members to consider joining our committee. Anyone who has been a member for 12 months is eligible, and we are very welcoming to new volunteers. Other than being a gay birder, no special skills are needed, just ideas and enthusiasm! Please let me know before September 10th
Greg
