servicing and maintenance ensuring the regimental fleet “stayed on the road at all times”. During the exercise A1 trialled the use of Light Echelon Groups known as (LEGS) which the MTWO took control of, this certainly took a little getting used to as we had not trained in this configuration before. The LEG consisted of various assets ranging from med, recov- ery, fuel, ammo, TCV and escort vehicles depending on the battle picture. Their main purpose was to allow the rapid extraction of casualty’s both personnel and vehicle and to conduct quick Squadron level battle Replens. The ‘LEG’ concept worked well through- out the exercise however there is room to improve with more integral defence capability required, which will allow better sustainment. The MTO`s wealth of knowledge in signals was invaluable when running A1`s controlling station allowing the newly qualified Cpl (Gary) Dryburgh to gain some early experience before future courses.
Post summer leave and the trawls kept coming in, LCpl (Shane) Telfer was busy training the regiment’s newest green fleet drivers and after a quick turnaround he deployed in support of Ex RELENTLESS FIRE which was a Machine Gun Platoon and Section com- mander’s confirmatory tactical exercise conducted on Salisbury plain. LCpl (Nails) Nailatica deployed on Op ESCALIN with assistance to fuel distribution and will continue you do so for the foreseeable future.
During October and November this year Tpr (Robert) Knowles and LCpl (Wee Bati) Batiuluna deployed to the middle east on Ex KANJAR OMAN to assist the 1 ROYAL IRISH in their A1 Echelon as a UST driver/ operator and SV driver. Tpr (Robert) Knowles was given the task of overseeing the battlegroups abundant ration supply and LCpl (Wee Bati) Batiuluna was com-
manding one of the two USTs deployed on the exercise. This training was an excellent opportunity to Build on the experience gained on Ex WESSEX STORM earlier in the year. Over the three weeks exercise they were able to practise their desert driving in some extremely arduous conditions. The exercise was capped off with a cultural visit to Muscat before returning to Leuchars.
It’s not all been hard work for the department Cpl (Big Bati) Batiuluna recently organised a department cake sale in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) raising an impressive £456, a fantastic effort by all involved. A Special thank you to Mrs Batiuluna, Mrs Telfer, Mrs Dryburgh & Mrs Briandt for their time and efforts in making the cakes which were delicious. It’s good to see JNCOs taking the lead in such events and showing that activities such as this don’t always have to have a large footprint on the ground even the small ones can make a difference.
With the change of manning structure for Op NEWCOMBE pending the department would like to say goodbye to Cpl Hunter, Tpr (Mat) Byham and Tpr (Ian) Park who will all leave military service in the coming months. LCpl (Shane) Telfer and LCpl (Kyle) MacKay will move to A Squadron to fill new roles For Op NEWCOMBE.
Lastly, Tpr (Bruce) Lee has moved to the adventure training centre in Castle Martin where he is doing a zero to hero instructors’ course in MLT, mountain bik- ing, rock climbing and kayaking he will be a great asset to the regiment on his return Aug 2022.
