38 EAGLE AND CARBINE
THE PIPES AND DRUMS
Corporal Holbrough
It’s been a rather special year for the Pipes and Drums, 75 years since the Band was officially recognised and taken on establishment and 50 years since the cur- rent regiment was formed, but 2021 started for Pipes and Drums in much the same low- key way as it had through 2020, with personnel being deployed as part of the COVID 19 Support Force. This slow start was soon replaced, however, with a variety of up-tempo major public engagements that saw the regiment and, more importantly the Band, at centre stage and firmly in the public eye, bringing a much needed splash of musical colour and Tartan to help lift the spirits of those fortu- nate to see us.
By mid-March, the Pipes and Drums had two newly qualified Class 3 Pipers, Cpl Holbrough and Tpr McGowan and two newly qualified Class 3 Drummers, Tprs Edgar and Richmond, following a more restricted,
socially distanced and blended eLearning and residen- tial course at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming (ASBM&HD) at Redford Barracks. Cpl Holbrough was also awarded the prize for Best Dressed Student
