farewell to WO2 Harley as he moved to take over as B SSM, we would like to wish WO2 Harley all the deserved success for his future. The Training Wing welcomed another new team member in the form of SSgt (Humph) Humphries who returned to Leuchars after completing a 2 year posting at the D&M Wing in ARMCEN. His Schools Instructor (SI) expertise will no doubt become an asset when the unit pushes to qualify soldiers on the Jackal platform prior to the Op NEWCOMBE deployment.
An early Christmas gift from QM(T) was a shiny old Roll Over Drills and Extraction Trainer (RODET). This piece of equipment has kept Sgt Mclelland busy, not only because it is what some would call ‘vintage’ but the RODET will train our soldiers to react in the correct and safe manner should there be a roll over emergency whilst crewing their platforms. Cpl Johnston never shying away from an experiment has become the RODET guinea pig, I am sure you can still hear his bones rattling about when walking through the offices’ days after but then some would say he is also ‘vintage’...
With autumn approaching, ARMCEN identified some white space in their calendar and noted that SCOTS DG were delivering Distributed Training (DT), this allowed SSgt Mayer from the Distributed Training
Centre to grace the Training Wing with his presence. He was sent to conduct the regiments first DT assur- ance visit since becoming a Lt Cav unit. Cpl Johnston ensured the prerequisites were in place, expensive cof- fee and the finest biscuits the shop on camp has to offer. The assurance visit went well, and the staff were con- tent with the report as it confirms that the regiments Instructors are delivering training correctly and that we continue to conduct business as safely as possible.
November saw the delivery of the Light Cavalry Crew Commanders Pre-course, a big thanks to Lt Roberts, Sgt Stevens and Cpl Chilvers who were charged with course delivery. With their expertise, 8 budding crew commanders from across all Lt Cav units and SNIY conducted refresher training.
The Training Wing continues to look forward to the next training year hoping it is as successful as the last. At this point I would like to use this space to sin- cerely thank all those who are staffed within the train- ing wing and those externally who help in achieving course delivery. A relentless job at times but there is nothing better than setting up our soldiers for success whether that be through their own careers or collec- tively for operations.
