 INTER-COMPANY TRAINING & VISITS
 REME Weekend 2017
In March 2017 three OCdts (Coales, Lane and Wiseman) along with Staff MacPherson travelled to ATR Pirbright to take part in the annual REME UOTC weekend. Upon arrival we were paired up with 6 members of Wales UOTC, creating a combined ‘Wales-bridge’ dream team. The focus of the weekend
was completing a number of stands of an engineering nature, whilst competing against the other teams.
Therefore, after the obligatory greasy breakfast, we set out to the training area. The stands we participated in included vehicle recovery, section attacks and helicopter component identification; these were something new, as I’ll admit I have never even changed a tyre before! My favourite stand was a vehicle recovery stand, using one
of the REME’s heavy vehicles to pull out a Land Rover from some trees. However, a stand which particularly stands out was a stretcher race, which involved motivation from Para Regiment PTIs, whilst running through muddy puddles and up hills.
The weekend culminated in an assault course on the Sunday, racing against another team whilst carrying elements of a ‘gun’. Although we were just pipped at the post in our race, the team

put in maximum effort and didn’t mind getting soaked through to waist height after falling in!
In conclusion, an enjoyable time was had by all, whilst experiencing much more of the engineering that takes place in the army.
