Chariots of Fire Relay Race
On the 18th September 2016, the streets of Cambridge saw ‘Team CUOTC’ and 380 other teams take part in the annual ‘Chariots of Fire’ relay race. Teams of six runners each complete a 1.5km leg through King’s and Clare colleges and along the Backs which to
some officer cadets, could be
seen as an alternative way to
practice the 1.5km effort of the
PFA! Our committed team was
made up of previous serving and
current members of CUOTC,
including OCdt Rivas, Pte Whiffen,
OCdt Cockram, OCdt Carter, myself and 2nd Lt Kensit, who ran in that order on the day of the relay. After meeting with the CO and his wife
in our designated ‘Zone E’ and still waiting for our last team member, we attached our race numbers and set-off. We got off to a good start and everyone put a great effort in with lots of
cheering and support from our team members. Kensit made a grand effort in storming from parking his car to his position on the start-line to take the baton from myself to finish off the race swiftly! The atmosphere was buzzing and
it appeared that everyone was really enjoying themselves, helping to raise money for the Papworth Hospital Charity. Perhaps the best part of the race was the post-run nutrition from the CO in the form of bacon butties, and with a team
position of 39th, we didn’t fall too badly in terms of results! An enjoyable event well-worth doing, and looking for recruit potentials for next year’s race.
