 Norwich Annual Dinner 2016
This year we revived the traditional Norwich Detachment Dinner. JUO Kirk and I, with the help of Major Bevin, secured a booking at the prestigious Assembly House in the heart of the city during the festive season. Norwich cadets had priority for tickets, but any and
all cadets and staff could attend, which resulted in a good turnout. The event, whilst still formal, is more relaxed than the CUOTC Annual Dinner and a great way to introduce A Company to the spirit of military functions in familiar surroundings.
We arrived to a splendidly decorated foyer and dining room where drinks were served. The food we were served was delicious: smoked salmon mousse for starters followed by roast turkey and stuffing, finishing with a rich chocolate and almond cake for dessert along with coffee and mince pies to mark the season. The drinks were flowing, spirits and festive mood was high and the majority of cadets then descended on the fabled lower common room to continue the night. The meal each year provides a great opportunity for cadets from all companies, along with young officers and staff, to mix and mingle. Additionally, the dinner is a “soft” introduction into military functions ahead of the CUOTC Annual Dinner, which gave the more junior cadets a chance to attend a smart dinner
in a relaxed environment. The event helped to build up the great team spirit which the Norwich Detachment is so well known for.
