INTER-COMPANY TRAINING & VISITS
Ex EXECUTIVE STRETCH
One of the key events of the year for CUOTC is Exercise EXECUTIVE STRETCH. This is a Brigade and RFCA sponsored event that seeks to offer executives from the civilian world, the chance to undertake leadership training, the Army way.
Advanced Wing were the lead on organising this one day event and were to provide the bulk of the manpower. With help from the Quartermaster and his team and much prior planning, the team were ready to receive up
to 60 civilian employed people from various backgrounds. From engineers to office staff, from 20 somethings to 50 somethings the candidates arrived. Some having unwittingly put themselves forward and given up their valuable Saturday off to take part whilst some were simply told by their bosses to attend. Tea and coffee kicked the day off along with a valuable chance to network.
The Commanding Officer delivered some insightful lectures on the army and our leadership methodologies for the duration of the morning. These included ‘What Leaders are’, ‘Qualities of a Leader’, ‘Values based Leadership & the Army Leadership Code’ and ‘Functions of Command’.

The afternoon’s events became more physical, with the teams taking part in various difficulties of command tasks – one of the Army’s ways of selecting aspiring Officers. These seemed to go down well and pushed some people out of their comfort zone a bit!
The highly successful day was concluded with some group discussions on leadership, followed by a curry supper and a fireside chat from Col Tom Redgate.
