Community Support
– Covenant Trust
funding
By Siggy Hillman
Community Development Officer
Inflatabounce, Wyton
5th & 11th October 2021
As part of the £10,000 Armed Forces Covenant
Trust funding we received, the Community
Support Team arranged two sessions for the
under 4’s and young people over 5 to attend
at the Inflatabounce on Sawtry way. Attendance was from a cross section of military families at Wyton and Brampton and residents from Wyton on the Hill. The facility was hired out for a few hours so that the families could meet up and the young people expel some energy. It was good to see the young people and even some teenagers taking up the opportunity to let off some steam, especially after being couped up so long due to all the COVID restrictions.
Wreath Making – 6th to 10th December
Having been such a popular event in previous years, the CS team decided to go ahead and run further sessions this year. The sessions started on a Monday 6th December with the Ben Play and Stay group, on the Tuesday it was the turn of Ben club and Youth Club, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the event was on Station where everyone had the opportunity to join it. This year we surpassed ourselves and a total of 100 wreaths were made, whilst all the time ensuring we adhered to all the current Government restrictions.
The kits were all packed up in lovely boxes courtesy of Pine and Peggy.

On Tuesday 7 December 2021. The RAF Wyton Area Voluntary Band had the honour of hosting Wing Commander Piers Morrell, Principal Director of Music, (PDM) RAF, Squadron Leader Ted Sellers, Chairman of the RAF Voluntary Band Association and his deputy Flight Lieutenant, Megan Murray for an assurance visit. The visit was to give assurances to the PDM that WAVB was up to standard to perform on Station and to the general public.
After a meeting with the Station Commander her staff and the Band OIC in the afternoon, the visitors attended Band practise in the band room in the evening. After an introduction to their guests the band rehearsed the programme for its Christmas Concert which was taking place in Stilton on the following Saturday, 11 December.
The PDM rehearsed the band through two pieces. Before the tea break, he presented Tim Alban with the ‘Band Person of the Year Award.’ At the end of rehearsal, the PDM addressed the band making many positive comments.
A week later the band received a letter to say that the PDM had received the musical assurances he was seeking and thanked the Band and the Bandmaster for an enjoyable visit.
The concert at Stilton was a great success, raising £1456.74 for Charity.
