REMEMBRANCE EVENTS
Across the region our cadets from all three services
were out in force to support Remembrance events
and a selection of stories and pictures follow.
In Hull TS IRON DUKE were on parade and
supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal.
In West Yorkshire 868 (Mirfield) Squadron were
also out in force supporting the local branch of the
Royal British Legion collecting for the national Poppy
Appeal.
At their Squadron HQ, the gates were adorned
with a “Mirfield Remembers” banner and a display
of poppies. Also, as a precursor to Remembrance
Day, 868 (Mirfield) Squadron held their own Act of
remembrance at the start of their regular Friday
evening meeting.
On Remembrance Day itself, the Mirfield parade
was, as usual, held in the afternoon, so as not to
clash with the neighbouring parades in Dewsbury

and Huddersfield. Many hundreds of supporters
took to the streets to support the parade through the
streets and service held at the town’s War Memorial.
After the service the parade reformed and marched
back through the town to the applause of onlookers,
and a salute was taken by the Deputy Lieutenant.
On Remembrance Day, 1324 (Hawker Blackburn)
Squadron joined with organisations including the
Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Elloughton-cum-
Brough Scout Group, and the Army Cadets of Brough
Detachment for a Ceremony of Remembrance.
The event, which was attended by Mr Chris
Blacksell DL, Deputy Lieutenant, saw the squadron
lead a record-breaking parade of more than 100
young adults and volunteer staff as they marched
through the town of Brough and took their place at
the memorial, joined by spectators of all ages from
the local community.
Our annual appearance at Hull City Hall to help raise funds
for the Royal British Legion by selling programmes and raffle
tickets. It also gave the Cadets an opportunity to wear vintage
uniforms from the collection held by Lt (SCC) Janice Spicer MBE
The Squadron assembled after
the parade and Service, with Kim
