researching their fallen heroes through various
methods including hours of internet research, visiting
the local library to look through articles and micro
fiche.
As the teams took their turn to stand at the lectern,
in a room of over 70 people, their voices loud and
proud, their hard work, time and effort bringing back
to life the name etched into the headstone. Recalling
their journeys from jobs before signing up to serve,
saying goodbye to their families at the train station as
they left for the front, to tales of heroism awards and
their deaths.
As the stories continued to be told, the guests
listened intently, visibly moved not only by the
information they heard but also by the work and the
passion the cadets had put into ensuring their names
live on.
After the presentations, the cadets were given a
special Victoria Cross Pin Badge as a thank you for
their work on the legacy project, and units who have
taken part in the joint project were presented with
a special plaque for their units to commemorate the
partnership project.
Major Hunt said: “the cadets displayed motivation
and a desire to know more of the individual they
selected to research. Through their research they
brought the individuals alive retelling their life story.
They have all been inspirational, and through their
education they will keep Remembrance alive”.
