PUDSEY AIR CADET
SOARS TO VICTORY AT
NATIONAL DRESSAGE
CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cadet Lucas Smyth from 2387 (Pudsey) Squadron
has achieved an extraordinary triumph at the British
Dressage Associated Championships, bringing
home a prestigious national title while representing
his Squadron and Wing.
The exceptional performance at Onley Grounds
Equestrian Complex in late October 2024 saw Lucas
participate in the Forces Equine section, clinching
both the National title and Bronze section aboard
his own mount, 'Yealand Mamzelle'. In an even
more impressive demonstration of skill, he went
on to secure seventh place riding 'Triad Alice May',
competing against seasoned adult riders and gold
section competitors at a significantly higher level.
"Standing on the podium was an incredible
moment that I'll never forget," shared an elated
Cadet Smyth. "The competition was intense, and
to achieve success against such experienced adult
riders feels amazing. The skills I've developed
through Air Cadets have really helped me in my
equestrian journey. The support from my squadron
has been amazing - they've helped me balance
my love for equestrianism with all the exciting
opportunities the Air Cadets offers."
"This remarkable achievement fills our entire Wing
with immense pride," commented Wing Commander
Katherine Barton, Officer Commanding South
& West Yorkshire Wing. "Cadet Smyth's success
against such experienced competition is truly

and winning at this level of equestrian sport is
absolutely outstanding - a big well done from both
myself and the wider Wing!"
