After the ceremony Maj John Cotterill guided all those present around the village to explain in detail the circumstances of the battle and the events that culminated in J
J Crowe’s VC- winning action. As may well be imagined the Crowe family were all very proud of their brave ancestor and the Dover and Ramsgate Rifle Club were pleased
that they had managed to put in position a permanent reminder of the exploits of their
most famous member. The Crowe family are now concentrating on writing a book about J J Crowe and planning an even bigger commemorative event for the centenary of his VC action in 2018.
