   Latest On The Library
As you will be aware from recent news, the County Council needs to find £115m of savings over the next four years, some of which they are looking to achieve by reducing their library services across the county. They are looking to dispose of some 21 libraries, Thrapston being one of them. The County Council opened a consultation and have been receiving applications for community groups to
run an Independent Library. The Friends of Thrapston Library have submitted an application to run such an independent library. The County Council have informed us that there will be a delay in any decisions being made – so it is now a case of wait and see.
Thrapston Town Council has met several times over the last few months and have agreed that they will attempt to acquire the library building for future use as a community hub in the town, a hub that will house some form of library service for the community, which we anticipate will be run by Friends of Thrapston
Library. How this Hub will look we don’t yet know – for now we are taking matters one step at a time – our first step being to acquire the building itself. If successful it will then be our intention to go out to the
community by way of a consultation to get feedback as to what our Community Hub should look like.
We know it will be a lengthy process from start to finish. If we are given the go-ahead from County to purchase the building, we will then go through
a process of commissioning surveys and valuations etc. prior to entering negotiations with County to achieve a sale. We will keep you informed through this newsletter and via our Facebook page. Like us on Facebook at: www. facebook.com/thrapston.towncouncil
