opponent who was boxing at range. Tpr Percival did some good work to block the longer shots and land his own on the inside. As the fight went on, Tpr Percival showed real grit and determination, fighting through the damage he had sustained during the fight and not taking a backwards step. He lost the bout but won the crowd with a great fight.
Tpr Dyer steps up into the squared circle for bout number four at middleweight. He was up against a very fit opponent from the QDG. He pushed a high work rate for the fight. Tpr Dyer stayed with the pace, landing some clean straight shots of his own but the unanimous decision went to the QDG officer in another crowd-pleasing fight.
With the crowd enjoying the atmosphere, Tpr Rule-Stevenson and his RTR opponent goaded their regiments on the opposite sides of the venue. This fight was action from the opening bell, with both boxers displaying some brilliant boxing. Tpr Rule-Stevenson showed great movement landing quality shots then stepping out of punching range effortlessly. Unfortunately, Tpr Rule-Stevenson was on the wrong side of a split decision in a well matched contest that could have gone either way. Another great bout for the crowd.
The next bout was an all-LD affair with Sgt Monaher against Tpr Churchward. This was a great match up between two teammates, Tpr Churchward as the taller boxer using his height and range, and Sgt Monaher as the box-fighter throwing shots on the front foot from a low guard. Both boxers had their own success; Tpr Churchward firing clean punches at range, and then Sgt Monaher once he had closed that distance, throwing powerful combi- nations on the inside. Despite wearing
the same capbadge, there was no love lost in a contest which went back and forth showing everything, skill, aggression, and discipline. Sgt Monaher came away with a close, split decision win, in a fight that both boxers can be proud of.
LCpl Marsland steps up to the ring at cruis- erweight. He was against a more experienced opponent but didn’t let this deter him, firing long straight punches to keep his opponent at arm’s reach. As the fight continued, his opponent pushed him onto the back foot, forcing LCpl Marsland to weather the storm and fire back with his own shots. This was a tough fight which LCpl Marsland will take a lot of experience from, despite leaving the ring as the runner up.
