This year has marked the resurgence of the British Army Warrior Fitness (BAWF) club. Much to the disgust of the more coordinated members of the regiment, BAWF has made a return, with movement Mondays and workout Wednesdays being the highlight of many a fitness enthusiasts’ week. Equipped with some new custom stash we have begun to compete in local competitions, and we are seeing some incredible athletes perform at competitions across the UK.
It has been great to see the resurgence of the BAWF club, where people can train together, PTI’s and potential PTI’s can expand their teaching skill set and where the regiment can continue to showcase the high level of fitness of its officers and soldiers. We will continue to compete in the UK BAWF League, and I hope to see the club continue to grow over the next year.

Cross Country & Orienteering
In the exhilarating sport where speed meet strategy, the Light Dragoons Cross Country and Orienteering Team have navigated the challenging landscapes of North Yorkshire with precision and determination. This season has been a remarkable journey seeing epic improvements in physical fitness and navigational competency. With a busy calendar over the 2023 season there has not been much time to attend races, however there have been a splattering of races and success. Notably Gaza Barracks hosted the UK North Cross-Country League and the team had the biggest turn out so far. There was also a very impressive attempt at the Bob Graham round by Lt Lennon which sadly had to be called off by poor weather and the 66 mile, 27,000 ft circuit of the 42 highest peaks in the English Lake District remains unbeaten by the Light Dragoons. The
Guards also completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks, no easy feat. Lt Griffiths and Lt Elkington took various trips to walk up some Welsh hills which are truly beautiful but demand the respect of the orienteer. Towards the end of the season Maj Mackey took 8 Light Dragoons to Scotland to compete their Winter Mountain Foundation where they learnt new navigational skills in conditions as cold as minus 25 degrees. This season has seen a unique synergy between cross country and orienteering. As the Light Dragoons charge through various landscapes, their orien- teering skills become their roadmap, ensuring not just speed but strategic navigation. In conclusion, the Light Dragoons Cross Country and Orienteering Team exemplify the epitome of athleticism and tactical acumen in this ancient and revered sport.
