Throughout the remainder of the 2023 season, Sgt Rowson, Sgt Beevers and Cpl Hodson represented the Light Dragoons for the Army Team in some of the biggest events on the course fishing calendar, coming second at the Inter Services, achieving second place at the Annual Police Service Events, (PSUK), whilst also attending a plethora of other events around the country with strong results being achieved.
In September, the annual championships for the AAF were to be held at Heronbrook Fisheries in Stafford, this consisted of 5 days battling it out against seventy-five anglers on multiple events with the aim of becoming the overall Army Individual Champion and festival winner. Day one of the event was the Master’s Trophy. This is an event for all those who have fished at a competitive level for the Army Team and deemed too good to fish at the Clubman Event. Sgt Rowson had a fantastic day’s fishing, hauling in a worthy 156lb, unfor- tunately he came 2lb short of the winner, receiving the Masters Runner Up Trophy. Day two and three was the main event for most with the intentions to become the Army Individual Champion. After day one Cpl Hodson was leading the event with an impressive haul of 115lb of fish and the important 1 point. With all to play for on day two of the event, Cpl Hodson came in with a weight of 145lb and 2 points giving him a final score of 3 points. Like last year Cpl Hodson had come joint first, but with his overall weight he was crowned the 2023
Army Individual Champion. Overall, in the festival, Cpl Hodson came an impressive 5th and Sgt Rowson 9th of the seventy-five anglers in attendance.
Group 5’s 2023-2024 season commenced in October. This season consists of fishing twelve events throughout the year and fishing multiple venues where the results are based on overall weight within a section. At the end of the season your best five results count.
This year Cpl Greenwood has joined group 5 coming from the dark side of sitting in a tent, brewing up or sleeping, awaiting an alarm to go off so that he knows that he has caught a fish, and it is great to say that Sgt Rowson, Cpl Hodson and LCpl Nicholson (REME) are already battling it out to try and win the 2023-2024 Individual Group Championship.
