1970’s because the owner, Mrs Newitt, went missing on the south coast. She went to check on one of her rental properties and never returned. The pub had to go into probate and was reopened by the Fleming family, passing hands three times before we took over in 1985.
What makes The Ship Inn different? What makes us different is actually we are what pubs used to be, but sadly too many pubs aren’t anymore. We have kept the traditional look, people of all walks of life talk at the bar and we strive to be inclusive and make everyone feel welcome. Not just set our sights on one type of clientele.
Dinner out or at home? Dinner at home.
Dog, cat or iguana – who’s at home? Cats, we have three rescue cats at home from the same litter and they mean the world to me.
Describe your business in five words Family, Service, Banter, Inclusive and Welcoming.
Who inspires you? My mother and father who have both sadly passed away. They taught me that service and treating everybody equally is so important. Good for the soul. And my wife Andrea, who has been a rock for me throughout good times and bad. I just wish my dad got to meet her before he passed away.
Proudest moment? Had many proud moments, but, just this week a lady in town who had her house on the market for a long time used to come in when people were looking around her property. She has finally accepted an offer and will be moving out
this week. She thanked me for making her
feel safe and welcome as a single older lady coming into our pub when in the afternoons we have predominantly men here. All the male customers were very nice and polite as well. www.theshipinnoundle.co.uk
