1RHA QM (M) Department
Year of 2022-2023 Pte Lavia
The year 22/23 was a busy yet an exciting year for the QM(M) department. The breadth of the department activi- ties was enormous. Ranging from internal movements of some key personalities to introduction of innovative processes to deliver swift and efficient G4 support to the Regiment. These activities are not just confined to providing the traditional G4 sup- port but extend to regimental sport and charity events. The year began with a change of the RQMS respectively. This change was followed later in the year with Ssgt Amponsah being posted in as the new UAA after the post has been gapped for an appreciable amount of time. Also, Sgt Gurung was posted to the QM(T) dept, leaving Bdr Frayne to step up from the MSA/CP&F to take on the Facility Manager role. Bdr Frayne then later promoted to Sgt solidifying her position in the role.
The idea of restructuring the department store by the QM saw all hands-on deck making it a more secure and accessible work- place. Indeed, the hard graft has paid off as the department now operates not only in a safe and secured working environment in line with current health and safety policies but also easily acces- sible materiel storage locations. The dedication and commitment of the department are testament to the successful execution of key regimental commitments. Most notably, the skills and sup- port of the department in meeting the requirements for UKRAINE Gift in Kind (GiK), initial equipping and preparation of the Regi- ment for Op VENTUS readiness and the routine Op CABRIT commitment equipping. Likewise, the QM department led and manged a regimental Board of Officers within a very stringent timeline for the HO/TO of the Regiment’s Commanding Officers. CO. The results were highly applauded by both the outgoing and oncoming COs The above are the highlight of the departmental professional achievements.
Besides these activities, soldiers within the department have been involved in numerous regimental sporting activities. The department is blessed with keen sports personnel in the field

of basketball, football, rugby, and competitive motorcycle rac- ing. With the QM(M), coaching the regimental rugby team and the RQMS(M), a competitive Army motorcycle racer, there are huge encouragement and motivation from the Chain of Com- mand towards the participation of sports whenever possible. Likewise, the department is at the forefront of charitable activi- ties. In November members of the department was tasked by the QM(M) to put on a raffle to raise funds for the regimental char- ity (First Trust), that was drawn at the Regiments Christmas din- ner. This event saw over £400 for the charity with many people winning a prize it was a total success to the department and to the Regiment’s charity. Additionally, from December up to April, Gnr Evans was stood up for Op REIMAGE (Nationwide Strike). Despite the busy commitments of the department, they all pulled together allowing Gnr Evans to become dedicated and commit- ted to the Op. He was engaged in driving ambulances all over the country in support of NHS demonstrating selfless commitment to make the lives of others better.
There is absolutely no doubt on how busy and challenging this year was for the QM(M) department of 1RHA. However, the encouragement, the team spirit and support from the CoC have seen the department turning a very busy and challenging work- loads into a conducive training environment where the team strive to learn to offer exceptional logistics support to the Regi- ment. Not withholding, the opportunity to engage in sports to improve physical and mental well-being of the personnel within the department. The members of the department are friendly and courteous and are always ready to help anyone that comes through the door. This encourages others outside of the depart- ment to come in not only for daily business but also to say hello or just to chat the team. A very diverse department indeed where everyone can communicate and voice their opinions on matters of concern and development to the team.
