This made everyone realise how much they had come on in just a week.
coffee shop to ‘wait for the wind to die down’, we persevered through the conditions and set up to climb. By this point we all thought we were comfortable with heights but we could all feel the wind as we climbed. This made my stom- ach turn just a bit more than usual and I was suddenly very afraid again! We found another ‘5’ climb here and thought we’d give it ago. OCdt Farrell was the rst to attempt the climb and after a few words of advice from Baz found his way to the top. We all attempted the climb and all completed our rst ‘5’ which felt great. Maybe we had just found an easy 5 but it didn’t matter!
Thursday – Thursday was to be our nal day of climbing. We decided to head back to our rst location on Saturday and attempted our rst climbs with ease compared to before. This made everyone realise how much they had come on in just a week. We all attempted another ‘5’ climb and again passed. Maybe we had actually got better at climbing and the ‘5’ we all completed yesterday wasn’t a
 uke! Finishing on
a high, we headed
back to the villa
and treated our-
selves to an even-
ing in Alicante. We
went to a local
Spanish restaurant
and used up the funds we had left buying plate after plate. This was followed by a few quiet drinks and a walk along the beach in Alicante, a great end to the week. The weather had once again picked up and we dived into the ocean to cool down before heading back to the villa.
Friday – The past week had been great fun. We had all received our climbing quali cations, slightly overcame our fear of heights and (most importantly) started on our tans for summer. Our trip had been a refreshing change of pace from Sandhurst life and we were all looking forward to two weeks of well-deserved rest from what had been a very tough term. We spent the morn- ing packing and tidying before handing the keys back and heading off to the airport. On the way we sampled some local Spanish food at the McDonalds close to the airport and got through check-in smoothly. We were greeted on our return to England by rain and wind, reminding us of just how nice the weather had been and how grateful we were for a fantastic expedition.
