Les Fusiliers De Sherbrooke
An active Primary Reserve unit in Canada and abroad!
2016-2017 was a busy year of training for Les Fusiliers de Sherbrooke. The unit was in charge of planning and organizing the training during Fall of 2016 for the 35th Group-Brigade of Canada. Three exercises were conducted regrouping 800 reservists in order to practice section, platoon and company drills for various types of actions.
Training during the winter of 2017 was performed within the unit and emphasis was put on artic warfare. The yearlong training was concluded with a joint exercise in urban warfare with Le Régiment de la Chaudière. A high level of realism was achieved because of the use of simunition FX marking cartridges.
The Regimental Band was very active and participated in many events such as Balls and charity events. They even played the National Anthem at one game of our local junior hockey team. The of cer in charge of the Regimental Band, Capt Sylvain Côté CD, was asked to write the Regimental March of the local Police Department which was performed for the rst time at a local fundraiser.
The province of Quebec was hit with its worst ooding in years in the springtime of 2017. Primary Reserve Units were called up in reinforcement to Regular Forces Units to help civil authorities. 19 members of our regiment volunteered and performed different tasks such as making and distributing sand bags, building different struc- tures to protect housing, patrolling neighbourhood to ensure the safety of peoples and goods, etc. This involvement from the Primary Reserve was greatly appreciated by the local population. It is worth mentioning that the regiment was the unit within the 35th Group-Brigade of Canada who provided the most soldiers for this critical operation.
Many of our members were also deployed abroad in different NATO missions such as OP UNIFIER in Ukraine, REASSURANCE in the Baltic region and OP IMPACT in Kuwait which is one of the Canadian contribution to OP INHERENT RESOLVE in Iraq.
