Herefordshire County Notes
The Ri es remain visible in Herefordshire with and Herefordshire severed.
Reserves, Cadets and the Association all playing a full and active part. The highlight of the year was the granting of the Freedom of Bromyard to The Ri es and the associated Freedom Parade in October 2016. A contingent from 2RIFLES marched on the day together with Cadets from C (RIFLES) Coy HWACF and members of the Ri es Association.
With the formation of 8 RIFLES, 10 Platoon, based in Hereford is to resubordinate from E Coy (Shrewsbury) to A Coy (Gloucester) 6 RIFLES in Aug 2107. This is an exciting time for the Platoon and something they are looking forward to, but it sees a 150 year military link between Shropshire
JAMES HEREFORD HAD BEEN AWARDED THE MBE IN THE QUEEN’S NEW YEAR’S HONOURS
In March, 65 members of The Herefordshire Light Infantry Of cers Dinner Club dined in Suvla Barracks and commemorated the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Herefordshire Light Infantry (re-titled from The Herefordshire Regiment), and also the 50th anniversary of their disbandment! Attendance was the highest for many years and we were pleased to welcome the Vice Lord Lieutenant Christopher James to our dinner.
We were delighted to learn that James Hereford had been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for services to The Ri es in the County Of Herefordshire. James has been an absolute stalwart in support of The Ri es in the County, as the rst County Colonel on formation in 2007, the return of The Ri es capbadge to the County in 2015, curator of the Regimental Museum, chairman of the Association and much else as well – an award most richly deserved.
