Neil and Hilly Horton agreed to take over The Shuckburgh Arms in 2023 and after receiving the keys, spent over six months renovating the whole pub with the aim of opening on Christmas Eve!
When was The Shuckburgh Arms established? The building became a public house known as The Shuckburgh Arms in 1840.
Tell us more... We have known the Shuckburgh Arms for many years, having moved to the village in 2014. Both of us have had lengthy careers in the corporate world, and early in 2023 the opportunity to take on a new and very different challenge arose!
Favourite item on your menu today? Our breakfast sandwiches are a big hit and at lunchtimes our traditional Ploughman’s is hugely popular.
What is the best thing about your job? We both enjoy how varied this role can be, but greeting and chatting with new and existing customers is a real pleasure.
What beers do you have on tap? We have a number of cask and keg ales on tap and work closely with Nene Valley Brewery with three of their beers in our cellar. We also serve Guinness, Morretti and draught cider.
What’s your best selling tipple? Nene Valley Bitter and Guinness are currently our best selling beers and our gins are also very popular.
Is booking advisable? For larger gatherings, booking is advisable but we will always try to accommodate walk ins.
How many of you work at The Shuckburgh Arms? There are currently three of us on board but this will no doubt increase.
Are you open every day? We currently open Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 3pm and then 6pm to last orders. Sundays are 11am to 4pm.
Most challenging moment? Wow, with a full renovation, where do we start? Getting everything finalised to open on Christmas Eve whilst keeping things afloat with Hilly’s other business was a tad challenging but a lot of fun!
