                                HORTICULTURAL
New era at the society
At the Society’s recent AGM, we said goodbye to David Wilkinson after 30 years of his involvement with Oundle Horticultural Society. He was sincerely thanked for his many years of service as a Committee Member, Treasurer and finally Chairman – while not forgetting his wife, Sue, for all her support
and help at our events over the years. They were presented with a watercolour print
of The Great Hall, (which has long been associated with the Summer Show) by local artist Simon Dolby, and also an invitation to Afternoon Tea at the George in Stamford, and flowers. Although David is retiring from the committee, we are pleased that David and Sue will both remain patrons.
Juliet Abrahamson, the recently elected Chair, arrives with a great love of plants and flowers and is looking forward to a busy year for the Society. Her interest lies particularly with dahlias and citrus plants, and a wide range of garden plants including vegetables. She is also keen on flower arranging and growing indoor plants, while complaining there are never enough windowsills!
There will be the usual Plant Sale and Coffee Morning on 18th May at the Joan Strong Centre in Oundle. Reasonably priced plants will be available, all grown by the committee and patrons, ready to flourish in your garden after
our keen amateurs have given them a great start!
The Society’s 101st Summer Show on 13th and 14th July is once again at The Acre, Milton Road, Oundle. Do join us for what will be a wonderful horticultural weekend, and maybe even consider competing. There will be many classes to choose from: flowers, vegetables, photography, handicrafts, flower arranging, painting, pottery, and children’s classes to name but a few. There are cups, awards, and small cash prizes to be won.
We are especially keen to see more entries from children in 2024. It’s fun, give it a
go! Parents, grandparents, carers, and club organisers – please spread the word and get your young people involved. There are 19 classes for young people to enter.
Look out for the new schedule which will be available from April. They can be found at Oundle Library, The Barn Garden Centre, Fletton House and on our website. This is a great time to get planning and growing!
