RAVC Field of Remembrance 2023
The RAVC had the Honor to commemorate those who have lost their lives at the 95th Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, Thursday 09 November 23.
The Field opens the Thursday before Remembrance Sunday and remains open for a further 10 days, where it is opened to the public.
In attendance at the opening ceremony for the RAVC was WO2 Shaun Cheatham acting as the main representative to meet HRH, along with Pte Adam Mather and Cpl Caen Morris.
As we waited for Her Majesty
The Queen to arrive and place her personal cross of Remembrance, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and friendship, people of all ages were exchanging stories and remembering the good times, along with placing their own tributes and paying homage to others.
There were a staggering 308 plots set out for military associations and other organisations, with 40,000 tributes laid out and an emotional service, with the daunting sound of silence and nothing more than the bugler playing the last post, followed by a deafening round of applause.
Following the service, Her Majesty took the time to circulate and talk to representatives from the
Corps and Regiments, along with two familiar mascots, Watchman
VI, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (Staffordshire Regiment Association) and Turlough Mor, the Irish
Wolfhound (Irish Guards).
A huge thank you to the Poppy
Factory and their staff, who on our behalf, put out all the crosses on the RAVC Plot every year.
