As the Australian Exchange Officer
posted here to Sandhurst, it’s fair
to say that’s it’s been a steep learning curve for myself over the past two years. From having to learn the platoon attack, the British leadership
in our future careers. This has been no different this term with Gaza Company providing us with many leadership challenges and rewards.
As I write this article, the OCdts are going through their regimental selection boards, what I can only describe as the OCdts’ most stress- ful week, but from a personal perspective one of the most professionally rewarding weeks as their Platoon Commander. To see the OCdts find their Regiments or Corps, to know they will all commission into their right and proper home is always a good end to the week. It also serves to sharpen their minds and determination to better themselves before they are entrusted to com- mand their respective soldiers.
From a personal perspective I can say Sandhurst has been a career highlight, getting the opportu- nity to immerse myself in the British Army. It is a unique opportunity to be embraced in a dif- ferent army, having the opportunity to have an influence on the young men and women who are going to carry this army forward into the future. The people I have had the privilege to teach and work with will have a lasting impact on my career and this is something I am truly grateful for. As I sign off from this posting, I wish the OCdts and staff of Gaza Company all the best for their Sen- ior Term and whatever lays ahead of them in the future.

doctrine or how to conduct the combat esti- mate, at times I’ve felt like an OCdt myself! All I hope is that I’ve remained one step ahead of the OCdts and they never saw through my charade.
What I can say without a shadow of a doubt
ate. It has not been without its challenges; how- ever, it has been most pleasing to see the OCdts rise to the chal- lenge and tackle all hurdles with
good humour and determination.
All I hope is that I’ve remained one step ahead of the OCdts and they never saw through my charade
is that, during my time here, the OCdts have taught me much about leadership, management of young men and women and how to try to get the best out of the team. Often people see this as a leadership academy for the OCdts, which it is, but I am also firmly of the belief that as staff, we learn a lot about our- selves and how to be better leaders
