Borneo Charity Ball
The Borneo Company Charity Ball was a great success with over 200 people in attendance. The theme of the evening was ‘Around the World in 80 Days’, which ena- bled many an international cadet to wear their National Dress to the Ball.
A Mariachi band and dancers, giving Egyptian and Wild West themed performances, provided entertainment during the drinks reception. Ani- mals such as snakes, parrots, meerkats and skunks also provided great photo opportunities
for guests. After supper, The Army Air Corps Band played to round off what was a night thor- oughly enjoyed by all.
Throughout the course of the evening there was a silent auction, a raffle, and the grand live auc- tion. In total more than £9000 was raised for our three chosen charities: The Army Benevolent Fund, MIND and Alexander Devine Trust.
We would like to thank The Sandhurst Trust for their contributions to the successful event.
Regimental Selection Boards
OCdt Allan Coyle
Throughout the Intermediate term, the Regi- mental Selection Boards hang over the heads of the Officer Cadets and
this culminates in week 12, when
the RSB interviews are held. Nerv- ous Officer Cadets sit in front of a panel of Senior Officers and attempt to articulate why they are right for their chosen Regiment or Corps.
For me, and most other OCdts,
the RSB process began before our
arrival at RMA Sandhurst. I don’t
come from a military background so when I first applied to join the Army, I wasn’t particularly sure what a regiment was and I certainly didn’t appre-
ciate how the diverse nature of these units would impact upon every soldier’s and officer’s career. After some research, I booked myself onto visits to The Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Corps of Royal Engi- neers prior to starting at RMAS. I thor- oughly enjoyed meeting the private soldiers, NCOs and officers of both units, and decided I would take these choices forward into the Commission-
ing Course.
Spaces at all regiments and corps are limited, and competition is therefore tight. There is a constant review of suitability for different cap badges and unfortunately many cadets are cut
