Bridlington Bike Ride for Fund Raising
By Warrant Officer Bob Hill
Over the Christmas break 252 (Bridlington) Squadron cadets decided to raise money for their funds. A/PO Rosie Gregson, Cpl Brodi Philo, Cadets Clayton Hellewell and Tayler Jackson- Shaw set off at 0900 on 28 December 2022, on static bikes to cover the 86 miles to HQ RAFAC at RAF Cranwell.
The cadets decided that they would like to help the Civilian Welfare Committee to raise funds for the Squadron to purchase new technology and equipment.
In total the Cadets managed to cycle from Bridlington to HQ RAFAC and back raising a total of £622. The money raised will be used
to purchase new aviation equipment including remote controlled helicopters and upgrades for the Squadron Flight Simulator.

BRONZE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD QUALIFYING EXPEDITION
By Corporal Emily Edmiston
On October 28th, a group of nine of us arrived at Driffield CTC, to complete our qualifying bronze expedition. After signing in with the other people on the camp, we quickly headed to a classroom for a kit check. We were then shown our camp space for the weekend and assembled our four tents ready to rest up for our big day tomorrow.
We woke bright and early at six am, took down
the tents and packed our bags, all before a delicious cooked breakfast from the mess. The minibus took us to the start point of our first walk and we were given our route cards and maps. We split into a group of four from Ryedale squadron and a group of five from Hawker Blackburn, the group I was in. Our walk was challenging but enjoyable and we navigated effectively. But, unfortunately, the weather was
not on our side and there was quite a bit of drizzle. However, the quote “It isn’t training if it isn’t raining” carried us through.
After arriving back at camp, we were pleased that the rain had stopped and we could assemble our

tents and cook a nice warm meal. Cooking in the evening as a team raised morale, as it was a good laugh and a nice reflection on the day. We would definitely recommend cooking together! After our lovely porridge, we set off on our final walk. The weather was much kinder to us that day and we completed our walk, in time for some delicious ice cream. Everyone passed their qualifying bronze expedition and we had a great weekend. Bronze DofE was amazing and taught us all important skills in resilience, determination and teamwork! On behalf of the whole group, I would like to thank all of the staff who helped assess and guide us through the weekend.
