We welcome into the Regiment the following officers, who commissioned from RMAS Commissioning Course No. 222 on Friday 14th April 2023.
2Lt HW Dinkele. Harvey attended King Edward VIth School in Bury St Edmunds and then the Hills Road 6th Form College in Cambridge, from where he gained a place at Durham University to read Economics. After his BA, he extended at Durham to achieve his Master’s in Management Finance. A keen sportsman, he was also employed as sculling coach and Rowing Camp team Leader. His final year in education, though, also told him that a career in finance wasn’t the right choice; instead, a career in The Rifles was, where he could primarily lead and care for his subordinates. At Sandhurst he was usually at the front in fitness and endurance, although having been selected by the Regimental Board, his commis- sioning was delayed by injury for 2 terms – now well in the past. Harvey joins 2 RIFLES.
2Lt PC Du Toit. Petrus’ family hail from South Africa, where they were farmers, but since moving to UK both his parents have been teachers. Born in UK, Petrus attended the Royal Hospital School Suffolk before gaining a BSc in Biology at the University of Nottingham. He has travelled widely, including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Far East, Australia and, of course, Africa. With school CCF he had the opportunity to visit Fort Benning in Texas and see at firsthand how the US Rangers work. He is a keen squash player, and competent at hockey, cricket, rugby, and skiing. When in South Africa he enjoys fishing, conservation fieldwork and hunting. Petrus joins 2 RIFLES.
2Lt HL Grout. Hebe grew up near High Wycombe, Bucks. The youngest of three siblings, her parents were a teacher and a dermatological nurse. Despite no expo- sure to the military throughout her formative years, she was drawn by an Army display during her final year at Wycombe High, which prompted her to join the UOTC at Durham University. She graduated in modern languages (French, Spanish and Arabic). She has worked in a range of jobs in Spain, Beirut, and Riyadh, and has travelled widely in Europe, Africa, and South America, using all her language skills. Keen on sports, she enjoys rugby, gymnastics (Durham University captain for both these two), tennis and running, and dancing (mod- ern, ballet and contemporary), and she took up boxing at Sandhurst. Hebe joins 1 RIFLES.
2Lt T Hori. Tommy is proud of his Japanese and Scottish heritage, but he was born and brought up in Cambridge, where he attended Chesterton Community College. His mother administers two charities for the homeless in Cambridge, and his father is a lecturer at Birkbeck University. Tommy, however, eschewed Higher Education and instead gained an Internship (Gap Year Commission) with 3RIFLES, commanding a platoon for several months and experiencing the US Exercise War Fighter in Texas. He then spent time in Chad on practical aid
