Rifleman’s situation. Jack’s interests include cricket, cross country, live music and reading history. He plays for a cricket team in St Albans, as a fast bowler and occa- sional batsman. He is a member of MCC, as is his father, and every summer they attend fixtures at Lords Cricket Ground. Jack joins 5 RIFLES.
2Lt JO Chrisp. Jack grew up on a farm in Northumberland and attended Dame Allans School, Newcastle, then Durham University to study Philosophy. Keen for adventure he has backpacked across Thailand for one month and Peru for two and has enjoyed endurance challenges in the UK (Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall). He was Captain of his College rowing at Durham and represented his County at rugby and polocrosse. He found time also to enlist as a reservist before Sandhurst – becoming a Trooper in the Queens Own Yeomanry. At the Academy he was part of the Sandhurst Cup team. He was promoted to JUO shortly before commissioning and awarded a Commandant’s Coin for sustained and exemplary performance. Jack joins 2 RIFLES.
2Lt JDS Nash. Josie went to Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School in Buckinghamshire and thence to Birmingham University for Biomedical Sciences. Next, she obtained a Master’s in International Development at Bath University, specialising in gender balance in human security and sustainability policy. From the OTC, she completed an 8-month internship at the Centre for Army Leadership. She has travelled to the USA and SE Asia with her family and on her own throughout Europe. During Covid lockdown she started her own business sell- ing commissioned drawings. She enjoys Hockey (2 years Captain at Birmingham University), CrossFit (in the top 10 of females in the British Army Warrior Fitness in 2022), cycling and boxing (at Sandhurst and before that White Collar). She was Platoon Sergeant for the winning Log Race team for her Sandhurst Intake and was later selected for the Sandhurst Cup team. Josie joins 1 RIFLES.
2Lt JR Peppard. Joe grew up in Somerset and attended Huish Episcopi Academy before studying Sports Science at Bangor University, where he was awarded a 1st Class degree. At university he was active in OTC and gained a Reserve Commission: he served 2 years with the Royal Welsh and then two years with the Parachute Regiment, part of that Full Time Reserve Service, and had risen to Captain by the time he started the Regular Commissioning Course. Being close to Snowdonia whilst at Bangor was an excellent opportunity to undertake adventur- ous training, including mountain biking, climbing, scrambling, and kayaking. He still pursues many of these today, aiming to get into the mountains or on the river whenever possible. Joe was promoted to JUO shortly before commissioning from Sandhurst. Joe joins 5 RIFLES.
2Lt R Vides. Ross grew up in South Africa, where he attended St Andrews School Grahamstown, before moving to the UK and going to Durham University, to study Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity. After university he worked as a graduate teacher at Repton School. He knows most of Southern Africa extremely well and has also travelled extensively around Europe. Several expeditions have taught him life skills that remain valuable today, both in everyday life and as a soldier.
