This is a round up of the RSYC 2023 racing season so far.
The RSYC racing schedule hosts a mixture of events in Southampton Water, mid Western Solent (for Beaulieu based racing), The Solent and UK South Coast.
Of course none of this would be possible without the Southampton and Beaulieu Race Management Teams who kindly commit
themselves tirelessly to our busy schedule, to deliver racing for you to enjoy.
This year, as you are probably well aware, we have often experienced either too much or too little wind for some of our racing but we carry on and hope the Autumn schedule and the Winter series are greeted with fair winds.
We started the year off with the Frostbite Series. This is a series based in Southampton Water that ran from January to mid-March. The races were mainly held in fickle winds and you need wind to host yacht racing! We managed to hold 7 of the 12 scheduled races for the 18 entrants.
• Class 1 was won by Gavin Howe in his Sunfast 3600, Tigris with Jacob
Mackenzie in his Evolution 22, Glass
Onion runner up.
• Class 2 was won by Luke Scott in his
Hunter Impala 28, Uproar with Paul Turner in his Sweden 42, Running Tide the runner up.
At the end of the Frostbite Series our Southampton RMT team took The Hound (RSYC Committee vessel) and the mark laying RIB out of the water, for a dose of annual maintenance. The team worked hard to ensure a timely completion for relaunch before the Double Handed series. What a team!
The Solent series of Double Handed racing got underway at the start of April and racing was competitive.
